JUNE 4, 2009 -- David Greeley and John Campbell are recalling the very first “92101 Happy Hour” networking party.
“It was six and a half years ago, in Rock Bottom,” says Campbell, who operates an online portal that organizes this networking event, and several others. “We had 22 people, and we were all sitting around one big table. It wasn’t exactly what we wanted.”
At the time, Campbell, who lives in the Gaslamp Quarter, was new to downtown San Diego. “And I knew about three people downtown,” he says.
But nearly seven years later, the monthly event still exists. Last night’s get-together—which attracted about 100 people—was held at the newly re-opened Side Bar. Greeley, an attorney who works downtown, was impressed. “Pretty much every new bar that I’ve been to has been at one of John’s events,” he says.
92101 Happy Hours occur the first Wednesday of each month. The goal is to provide a setting that’s half professional, half social, says Campbell. For more information on the next Happy Hour, go to campbellnetworks.org.
